A dense, joyful collision of colour and line, The Birds Flew In unfolds like a map with no fixed orientation — every edge as much an entry point as an exit. Thick black contours divide the canvas into a mosaic of interlocking shapes, flat planes of blue, coral, ochre, and violet held together by a single continuous line that winds, loops, and doubles back across the surface.
Within the abstraction, movement gathers into form: wings lift from the tangle, a bird's silhouette takes shape mid-flight, hands reach and gesture before dissolving back into pattern. Nothing stays fixed for long. The composition rewards slow looking — the longer the eye stays, the more the canvas seems to shift, revealing new figures hidden inside shapes first read as purely decorative.
The title suggests arrival — something entering the frame from elsewhere, uninvited but welcome, disrupting the order of things. It's a fitting metaphor for the painting's own logic: intuitive, unplanned, and alive with the sense that anything on the canvas might, at any moment, take flight.
