There's a storybook quality to this one — the kind of garden that only exists in a child's imagination, where everything grows too fast and in too many colors and nothing follows the rules of an actual flowerbed. The black outline breaks the whole canvas into hundreds of small colored pieces, like a stained-glass window built by someone who'd never seen real glass, only pictured it.
Look closely and actual flowers start to appear — a five-petal bloom, a ring of stamens — but they're buried in a tangle of shapes that could be leaves, could be creatures, could be nothing at all. That's part of the fun of it. It's less a garden you'd walk through and more one you'd dream up: overgrown, a little chaotic, full of things half-hidden in the pattern waiting to be spotted. The kind of painting kids tend to stare at longest, because there's always something new tucked into the color.
